Bomb kills four troops in south Thailand

A 20-kilogram home-made bomb exploded on a rural road in the Rueso district, located 820 kilometers (508 miles) south of the Thai capital Bangkok, late on Wednesday as two jeeps were taking troops from the Narathiwat 30 Special Force back to their barracks.

The blast ripped the first jeep in half, killing four soldiers and wounding a fifth. The second jeep escaped the explosion.

The seriously wounded soldier was taken to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.

The twelve soldiers were returning from a temple, where they had provided security for Buddhist followers attending a candlelight procession marking Makha Bucha Day, which is held on the full moon day of the third lunar month to revere Buddha and his teachings.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
