The first bomb went off on Thursday evening near a popular cinema called Venkatadri Cinema in the district of Dilsukh Nagar which is one of the largest commercial centers in Hyderabad. Minutes later, the second blast took place next to a nearby bus stop.
According to India’s Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde “The two bombs were placed on two different bicycles and the distance between them was about 100 to 150 meters (yards).”
Following the deadly assaults, India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh issued a statement saying that “This is a dastardly act and the guilty will not go unpunished.”
No group or individual has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks.
According to reports, since 1992, at least nine bomb blasts have rocked the city including three bomb explosions in 2007 that claimed the lives of at least 51 people.
In May 2007, a blast at a mosque in the city killed at least 11 people. In August 2007, at least 40 people lost their lives in two separate bomb attacks in the southern Indian city.
