Bomb blast wounds two in Mogadishu

The explosives-laden car exploded on Wednesday in Mogadishu’s Maka Al Mukaram Street near Ambassador Hotel.

“The security forces cordoned off the area before the car exploded. It injured a policeman and bystander,” said Omar Abdul, an eyewitness.

Somali police spokesman Abdullahi Hassan Barise says security forces have arrested four people in connection with the explosion.

“We got a man with the remote control seconds after he detonated the car,” he added.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

On March 14, a bomber detonated an explosive vest in front of the Somali presidential compound, killing seven people and injuring 15 others.

Al-Shabab fighters claimed responsibility for the attack.

The fighters have been fighting Somali government troops and African Union peacekeepers in and around the capital Mogadishu since 2006.

African Union force in Somalia comprises troops from Djibouti, Burundi, and Uganda.
