The deadly explosion occurred on Tuesday in Baghdad’s Sadr City, Reuters reported.
The blast coincided UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan’s meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on the unrest in Syria, in the city’s heavily fortified Green zone.
Violence in Iraq has picked up again in the past months after years of relative calm following bouts of bloodshed in 2006-2007.
At least 237 people were killed and 603 wounded in terrorists attacks across Iraq in June, making it one of the bloodiest months since Iraqi forces took over security from US troops at the end of 2011.
