Bomb attacks kill 13 people in Pakistan

The first attack occurred close to Pakistan’s northwest tribal city of Peshawar near the Afghan border on Saturday, when a bomb went off just outside a compound of an anti-Taliban commander and killed nine people.

“The bomber detonated the vehicle just outside the compound of anti-Taliban militant commander Maulana Nabi, in the town of Spin Tal near the Afghan border,” senior administration official, Zakir Hussain said.

According to Pakistani officials, the bomber exploded his vehicle when he failed to enter the militant headquarters.

The death toll includes five children who were going back home after attending their school.

Meanwhile, a remote-controlled bomb planted in a pick-up truck killed at least four people and injured 7 Pakistanis near the town of Dhog Darra in Upper Dir district, according to the local Police.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in the so-called war against terrorism.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan and thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
