A man’s body has been found floating in water off Shellharbour, on the NSW south coast.
Police suspect he may have slipped and hit his head while walking on rocks in the area.
The body was spotted by a member of the public about 2pm on Saturday, floating about five metres off rocks in the bay area off Shellharbour.
The body was removed from the water and resuscitation attempts were made by members of the public, who included an off-duty nurse.
Further resuscitation attempts by ambulance paramedics were not successful.
Police said the dead man was a 70-year-old from Mount Warrigal.
They said initial inquiries suggest the man was walking on rocks near the sea pool when he slipped, struck his head and fell into the water.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to officially establish the cause of death and witnesses have been asked to come forward.
