Body in Sydney tree identified

The body of a woman found decomposing in a tree in eastern Sydney has been identified as a 22-year-old woman from the US.

Melissa Dietzel’s body was discovered in a Randwick tree by a council worker on January 12, after residents had complained of a foul smell.

A tree contractor was pruning the large ivy-covered tree when he made the discovery.

Police used dental records to identify the body.

It is not clear exactly how long the body was in the tree before it was discovered last month, but the death is not considered suspicious.

Ms Dietzel had been working as a nanny in Sydney, but had been let go by the family who employed her, Fairfax Media reported on Monday.

Ms Dietzel’s family in the US said she had been missing for more than a month when her body was found.
