A body found in the Murray River is believed to be that of a 50-year-old Melbourne man who went missing on Saturday.
The discovery was made shortly after midday on Tuesday, and a post-mortem examination is being conducted.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said the body may be that of a 50-year-old Melbourne man who disappeared after going for a swim in the river in the Victorian border town of Strathmertin late on Saturday afternoon.
“We believe that may well be but formal identificiation has to take place,” she said.
The man’s family contacted police on Saturday after he failed to surface but nightfall hampered the initial search.
Detectives from Deniliquin local area command in NSW are preparing a report for the NSW coroner.
