The air quality in cities can get pretty awful, particularly with particulates from diesels and dirty engines. In his LifeEdited project, Graham Hill wanted an air filter in his apartment, but built it into a closet because it was not pretty to look at. Swedish company Blueair wants to change all that; they hired Claesson Koivisto Rune architects to redesign and reinvent the air purifier. That’s who designed last year’s Best In Show for ICFF, the Wastburg Durapulp lamp.

An air purifier is an object in its own right and does not have to be a dull piece of technical equipment. After all, this air cleaner removes the unwanted particles from your indoor air. It makes the air that you breathe in your own home healthier and it does it gently. A quite beautiful achievement, isn’t it? We certainly want our design to express this beauty in its appearance as well.
