Blockupy Frankfurt rally held in Germany

The peaceful rally on Saturday was organized by the anti-capitalist movement known as “Blockupy Frankfurt.”

Police said people marched through the city center to protest against the dominance of banks and “untamed capitalism.”

Roland Suess, a spokesman for the organizers, said the turnout has already reached 25,000. Organizers have told authorities that they expect between 10,000 and 40,000 participants to attend the event.

Europe’s debt crisis has given new fuel to protests, with austerity measures heavily affecting some European nations such as Greece, Portugal and Spain.

On Friday, at least 400 demonstrators were arrested during rallies in Germany’s financial capital Frankfurt, which is home to the European Central Bank (ECB).
