Blast kills one Afghan police, injures 10

Six policemen are reportedly among those injured in the blast in a police station in Jalalabad.

This is while some local reports say the blast hit near the building of the provincial national television and radio department.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, at least six people were killed in an attack on the US Nangarhar base in eastern Afghanistan.

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and Roadside bombs are by far the most lethal weapon Taliban militants use against Afghan forces, foreign troops, and civilians.

Homemade explosives accounted for half of the roughly 1,500 civilian deaths in the first six months of 2011, according to the United Nations.

The US-led invasion of Afghanistan took place in 2001. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led troops in the battle-weary country.

Thousands of civilians including women and children have been killed as a result of the war.
