Recently I was in Washington D.C. for meetings when I chanced upon a couple of dozen blacks staging a demonstration a few blocks from the White House. They were holding a number of placards with (dare I say racist) Afro-centric messages. A few hours later on my return trip they were still there, so I took pictures.
One of the placards featured a typically European-looking picture of Jesus, only with large horns. The placard reads (in English and Spanish) “This is the Devil. Jesus was a negro.” I was so pleased to be informed of this that I took a look at the next placard. Its fire and brimstone image was accompanied by the caption “Get ready for your future, white folks: Nuclear fire and eternal slavery.”
Well, I suppose each is entitled to his own theology. Still, it would be hard to imaging a group of whites demonstrating in public with a similarly inflammatory message aimed at blacks without it making the national media from CNN to the Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.
Realistically, I know that national attention for an undeniably anti-white racist demonstration like this is not very likely, but I thought I should at least check the local news. I checked The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and WTOP, Washington’s top news station.
I didn’t find any coverage of the demonstration, but my efforts were not entirely without reward. Apparently across the river in Arlington Virginia a white man with gray hair and “pride in his step” walked down the street carrying a confederate flag. Fortunately, a “concerned citizen” called 911.
Arlington, by the way, is the home of Robert E. Lee. It’s official seal features the mansion of General Lee. It’s main high school is named Washington Lee. In fact, the street the flag bearing man was waling on was Lee Highway. (See the WTOP article below. The Washington Times also covered it.)
To summarize: A demonstration of blacks calling for eternal slavery for whites — nothing to see here. A lone white man carrying a Confederate flag down Lee Highway — quick, call 911!
A man holding a Confederate flag was spotted marching down Lee Highway near East Falls Church this morning.
The above photo was taken near N. Sycamore Street around 8:00 a.m. A reader said the man was walking very deliberately down the street, with a Confederate flag that had the Gadsden flag’s “Don’t Tread On Me” snake in the middle.
“[He was] not yelling anything but [you] could tell he was walking with pride in his step,” said the reader.
At least one concerned resident called police to report the display, which is highly unusual for Arlington, but according to scanner traffic police determined that the man was exercising his First Amendment rights and not violating the law.
