Criticism has come not only from members of the public, but also from the
state-run media.
However, Chinese politicians are not judged on the hoof, and Mr Guo’s
promotion to party secretary was never likely to be rescinded in the wake of
the debacle.
As Beijing’s party secretary, Mr Guo is almost certain to be named to the
powerful 25-member Politburo at a party congress later this year.
Mr Ji, meanwhile, will also become the head of the city’s Political and Legal
Committee.
