On Tuesday, Scotland Yard announced its Operation Yewtree detectives charged the 68-year-old presenter over alleged assault of a woman between 1992 and 1993, following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Travis, whose real name is David Patrick Griffin, advised his lawyer, Martin Bale, to plead not guilty to the accusations of 11 counts of indecent assault and one of sexual assault, which the prosecution laid down on August 23 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in central London.
The court granted a bail release after the initial hearing, but has recalled him to answer for the new charges on Thursday.
The latest charges come as part of Operation Yewtree, which was launched following the abuse scandal surrounding former TV entertainer Jimmy Savile.
Several high-profile figures have been arrested over the inquiry into indecent abuses surrounding the British entertainment industry, including TV presenter Rolf Harris, singer Gary Glitter, radio presenter Stuart Hall, former TV producer Wilfred De’Ath and comedians Freddie Starr and Jim Davidson.
