Bangladesh ferry sinks, 150 missing

Shahidul Islam, a local police chief, said that about 35 people have survived but more than 150 are still missing.

He added that the incident occurred early Tuesday after a vessel collided with the double-decker Shariatpur 1 ferry, making it capsize in the middle of the Meghna River.

Islam noted that rescue teams are at the scene of the incident, searching for the missing passengers.

One rescued passenger, identified as Dulal, said that most passengers were asleep when the collision occurred.

At least 32 people lost their lives in a similar incident in the Meghna River in April last year.
