Matt Wieters made a comment in March that sounded so naive, it was almost charming. It was spring training, when even the lowliest teams can be optimistic. But Wieters, the catcher for the Baltimore Orioles, seemed to push the limits of the plausible.
“There’s been teams that go worst to first before,” he said by his locker in Sarasota, Fla. “We feel like we have the talent to do it, too.”
