Bahraini police tear gas Manama demo

Police attacked protesters calling for the downfall of the Al Khalifa regime on Saturday.

A similar anti-government demonstration was also held in the capital on Friday.

Meanwhile, witnesses said a number of protesters were injured when regime forces attacked the demonstrators in several other towns in Bahrain on Friday.

Bahrainis continue anti-government demonstrations across the country despite the Manama regime’s crackdown.

Over the past few days, anti-regime demonstrators have also demanded the release of prominent human rights activist Nabeel Rajab, who was re-arrested on June 6 on suspicion of posting messages on Twitter that Manama considers critical of the Al Khalifa regime.

Rajab, who is the president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, was granted bail on May 28, several days before being re-arrested.

His lawyer says Rajab is also accused of participating in an anti-regime demonstration in Manama in January.

Bahraini demonstrators hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for the death of protesters during the popular uprising that began in February 2011.
