Bahraini forces attack demonstrators

The protests were held in several towns and villages, including the eastern town of Sitra and the northwestern village of Diraz, on Thursday.

The police fired teargas canisters to disperse the demonstrators, who were holding Bahraini flags and pictures of the protesters killed at the hands of the regime forces.

Since the launch of the popular revolution on February 14, 2011, protesters have been calling for an end to the Bahraini monarchy’s rule over the Persian Gulf island.

Manama intensified the presence of its forces across the country after the first anniversary of the revolution.

On Thursday, Bahraini activists announced that the regime forces had detained at least 100 peaceful protesters over February 14 and 15.

Some of the detainees are said to be women and wounded people.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds others arrested in the Bahraini regime’s suppression of the anti-government demonstrations.
