Bahraini activists climb embassy wall

Ali Mushaima and Mussa Abd-Ali, who have refused to eat since April 4 in support of the uprising in their home country, reached the top of the diplomatic mission in London and waved the Bahraini flags on Monday in a bid to draw attention to Manama’s use of violence against protesters.

They also demanded the release of top Bahraini rights activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who has been on a hunger strike for more than two months, and jailed opposition leaders, including Hassan Mushaima, Ali’s father.

In a phone call to Press TV, Ali denied reports that a group of Bahraini activists have stormed the embassy and took it over, saying only he and Mussa are in the embassy and that he has no information whether Manama’s ambassador to London is still inside the compound or has left.

The two activists had earlier been holding a sit-in outside the US Embassy in London to protest against Washington’s complicity in Manama’s suppression of protests as well as US support for Saudi invasion of their country.

They ended their six-day protest sit-in after they were ignored by US officials.

Ali says his father, who suffers from cancer, does not receive proper medical treatment in jail. Hassan Mushaima, who was secretary general of the Haq movement, was sentenced to life in prison last year for “plotting to overthrow the government.”

Ali will also face 15 years in prison if he returns to Bahrain.
