Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, for his part, expressed hope that Iraq’s hosting of the Iran-P5+1 meeting will play a leading role in resolving the Western dispute over the nuclear energy program of the Islamic Republic.
Iran and the P5+1 – China, Russia, Britain, France, the US and Germany – are set to hold the next round of their talks in Baghdad on May 23.
The latest round of the talks between Iran and the P5+1 was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.
In an earlier meeting with Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim, the SNSC secretary said the Baghdad meeting signified the progress of a modern Iraq.
He noted that in addition to the nuclear issue, key regional developments would also be discussed by Iran and the P5+1 states.
Hakim hailed Iran’s leading role in the international scene and the Muslim world and said Iran plays an important role in various international issues and all should accept it.
