‘Azerbaijan aids Mossad, CIA agents’

“Azeri authorities, particularly the country’s security officials, are well aware that that CIA and Mossad agents have bases and are active in Azerbaijan,” Deputy Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Esmail Kowsari said Wednesday.

Kowsari added that according to the documents in Iran’s possession, Azeri officials have aided Mossad and CIA agents and this assistance resulted in the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists such as Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan.

Ahmadi Roshan, a Sharif University of Technology chemical engineering graduate and the deputy director of marketing at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, was killed on January 11 when an unknown motorcyclist attached a magnetic bomb to his car.

Kowsari said Azeri officials are escaping forward by claiming they have arrested Iranian spy cells in Azerbaijan because they know they cannot deny their cooperation with foreign spy agencies.

The Iranian lawmaker added that Azerbaijan must be accountable for its actions and remove foreign spies from Iran’s borders.

The London Times reported on February 11 that Israel is using Azerbaijan as a base to spy on the Tehran government.

“This is ground zero for intelligence work… Our presence here is quiet, but substantial. We have increased our presence in the past year, and it gets us very close to Iran. This is a wonderfully porous country,” The Times quoted an anonymous Mossad agent referred to only as Shimon.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on February 12 summoned Azeri ambassador to Tehran Javanshir Akhundov to protest against Baku granting asylum to the Mossad-trained assassins of Iranian nuclear scientists.
