Australian Olympics archery hopeful ‘intimidated by father of main rival’

“I felt scared and intimidated and put off. I felt like I was being constantly
watched and followed and I couldn’t concentrate on my shooting.”

Snazelle said Mr Barnard positioned himself 5 metres behind her while she was
shooting at several events in Sydney. She said he also followed her around
and watched her competing during a two-day event in Canberra on February 28
and 29.

At an event on February 19, police were called in after Snazelle said Mr
Barnard was “blocking the entrance to the bathroom”. She also said she saw
him twice push her mother out of the way “with his stomach”. Snazelle
subsequently complained to Archery Australia alleging Elisa Barnard had
engaged in “unsporting” behaviour.

The magistrate, Lee Gilmour, told the women to put the matter aside and focus
on their efforts to gain a spot at the Olympics.

“This is a may be once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said. “Competition and
pressure can cause people to do silly things”.

The matter has been adjourned until June 8.
