The investigation surrounding the theater shooting continues today as authorities attempt to get inside the mind, or at least the apartment, of suspect James Holmes.
The Aurora Police Department arrived at Holmes’s one-bedroom apartment yesterday to find that it had been rigged with a number of “victim-initiated” booby-traps. Officials noted wires, trip wires, and what appeared to be jars full of liquid accelerant and ammunition. Techno music was blaring from the bedroom — Holmes had apparently left it playing as he left for the theater.
In a media update earlier today, Aurora Police stated they would be releasing any breaking news via their Twitter account.
The Aurora police have since confirmed setting off a small, controlled detonation, successfully disarming two trip wires and an accompanying incendiary device. Authorities had previously mentioned using a robot to perform the detonation but it remains unclear whether or not the plan was carried out.
The Aurora Police Department is hopeful that all major threats have been eliminated.
The ultimate goal is to remove as many undetonated devices as possible. These devices will reportedly be transferred in sand-lined trucks to stifle any explosions.
