A 46-year-old man who died after a caravan park fight is believed to be the father of murdered teenager Jessie Cate.
West Australian police on Monday said they had charged a 41-year-old man with grievous bodily harm after he allegedly assaulted Paul Cate on May 31 at Dawesville Caravan Park, near Mandurah, south of Perth.
Mr Cate died later in hospital.
The 41-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
The charge may be upgraded depending on the results of a post-mortem scheduled for Tuesday.
The assault came a day after Kyle Rohan Garth, 20, pleaded guilty in Perth’s Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court to murdering Ms Cate, 15.
Garth, who had worked with Ms Cate at a local Woolworths store and dated her older sister, had offered the teenager a ride home after her shift on December 12.
He was arrested the following day and charged after leading police to her body in a shallow roadside grave in Mandurah.
Following his plea, Ms Cate’s mother, Judy, told reporters outside court she wanted all killers to receive life sentences without parole.
Garth will be sentenced on September 5.
