Argentina’s foreign minister refuses to apologise for Falkland Islands Olympics video

Mrs Atwood, a Canadian author, wrote the phrase in her novel ‘The Robber
Bride’.

Together with Cristina Kirchner, the Argentine president, Mr Timerman has
demanded Britain respect a 1965 UN resolution that calls for the UK to
negotiate the sovereignty of the Falklands with Argentina.

Martín Mercado, creative director of YR Argentina, said the agency cannot ask
for the advert to be pulled as it now belongs to the Argentine government.

“The idea was that an Argentine athlete went to train on what, for us, is
Argentine soil,” he said.

Florencio Randazzo, the Argentine interior minister, also criticised the
furious reaction the spot received in the UK.

“There’s no reason for them [the British] to get angry or talk about us being
aggressive,” Mr Randazzo said. “The Malvinas [the name for the Falklands in
Spanish] are Argentine.”
