Another UK soldier dies in Afghanistan

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that the death was not related to the recent incident at Camp Bastion where two United States Marines were killed.

The UK soldier died when his vehicle hit an explosive device in the Nahr-e Saraj district of the Helmand Province.

Major Laurence Roche, a spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said, “I am very sorry to announce that a soldier from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards died yesterday when the vehicle he was travelling in struck an improvised explosive device.”

The total number of deaths of British soldiers in Afghanistan has now reached 428 since the beginning of the US-led invasion in 2001.

The latest death comes after a recent attack against a British base in southern Afghanistan that killed two US Marines and injured other troops. Taliban militants claimed full responsibility for the attack, saying that it was an act of vengeance for the anti-Islam film made in the US and also a response to the presence of Prince Harry, Britain’s third in line to the throne, in the region.
