A 22-year-old champion showjumper has developed blood clots in her lungs shortly after receiving the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Imogen Allen got her shot on July 24th and a day later began experiencing shortness of breath, which over the next following few days became so bad that she was unable to speak. She then collapsed on holiday with her boyfriend and was rushed to hospital where she received the news that she had developed ‘two massive blood clots’ on her lungs.
Imogen, who hails from Woodcote in Berkshire, spent four days alone in hospital, only able to see her boyfriend and family for short periods due to COVID-19 restrictions. The 22-year-old, who represented England in showjumping as a teenager, now faces the likely outcome of serious and complicated surgery to remove the blood clots.
The Dailymail reports that she is now on powerful blood-thinning medication that she may have to take for the rest of her life, the side effects of which mean that she could bleed to death from a simple cut or bump on the head.
Doctors have told Imogen that it could be up to three months before her breathing returns to normal and that the blood clots were definitely caused by the vaccine.
In a shocking waste of talent and life, the equestrian athlete may never be able to ride a horse again. Imogen had previously won a silver medal representing England in British Show Jumping events against Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
