Animal Rights Groups Slam Queen For Wearing Fur Coat

The Queen ignored previous criticism from animal rights groups after arriving for a Christmas day church service in Sandringham, wearing a fur coat.

The 89-year-old  British monarch was pictured wearing an old fur coat before changing into a red coat and scarf by the time she made it to the church.

The Daily Mirror reports:

In the latest appearance she was seen sporting a brown fur coat as she arrived with members of the Royal Family for the private Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Norfolk.

She wore the same coat to the event two years ago and came under fire from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and other activists.

A spokesman said at the time: “It’s never too late to change old ways, especially when they are not only old but also insensitive and unacceptable today.

“How can Queen Elizabeth – who had to be taught why people loved Diana, a non-hunting, fur-free vegetarian – not yet have learned what’s right and wrong and abandoned fur, the product of immense suffering?

“Animals are routinely strangled, electrocuted and skinned alive for their pelts. Fur farming was banned in 2000 because it’s a cruel industry that no longer represents British values.”

The Queens choice of attire triggered sharp criticism from some Twitter users.

One Twitter user wrote: “The Queen wearing fur makes me hate her even more.”

Another one called her “insensitive and ignorant”, while another said: “The Queen in a fur coat – epic trolling.
