A political commentator says it is time to stop US “madness” as Washington continues to lie to its own people and kill other people around the world.
“They [US officials] talk democracy, they talk about ethics, the people of America are being lied to, but the American government is in Afghanistan killing the people of Afghanistan,” Anna O’Leary told Press TV in a phone interview on Monday.
Unnamed US officials told the Los Angeles Times last week that the CIA is seeking new bases in countries north of Afghanistan for its deadly drones, fearing that the full withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan would affect the agency’s drone killings in neighboring Pakistan.
The CIA asserts that if the US fails to sign a bilateral security deal with Afghanistan and secure an enduring military presence there, it would not be able to fly drones from its Afghan bases because drone operations are covert and need US military protection.
“America isn’t leaving Afghanistan. America is interested in getting other bases to base their drones in. Uzbekistan evicted them in 2005 but now they’re looking at Tajikistan, which is just north of Afghanistan, as a base,” said O’Leary.
She was referring to an airbase in Uzbekistan from which the CIA and the Pentagon used to fly drones until 2005 when the US was evicted.
A visit by Michael Nagata, commander of US special operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, to Tajikistan last month for the purpose of discussing “issues of bilateral security cooperation” and “continued military cooperation” has also raised questions about Washington’s military intentions in Central Asia.
O’Leary also told Press TV that the US is basically “expanding into Asia, knowing that Asia is the market of the future,” with strong developing nations in this continent and the US after these countries’ resources and dominance in Asia.
“It’s all about expansion. If America had any goodness in it as a government, they wouldn’t be supporting Israel and supporting the genocide of the Palestinian people,” she said as she urged people around the world to call for an end to US madness and its drone killings.
