ALP poll shows Wilkie could win seat again

Independent MP Andrew Wilkie may retain his seat at the next federal election, new polling suggests.

In a poll of 400 people, which was commissioned by the ALP, the outspoken Tasmanian looks to have improved his vote in the Hobart-based seat of Denison, News Limited reported on Tuesday.

Mr Wilkie, who was elected on 21 per cent, now has 23 per cent of the vote, according to the poll.

Meanwhile Labor has slipped from 35.8 per cent at the last election to 26 per cent, while the Greens are down two per cent to 17 per cent.

The Liberals, however, have improved – up from 22.6 per cent in 2010 to 31 per cent.

But Labor strategists have reportedly told News Limited that based on the flow of Greens preferences similar to that of 2010, the result would either see the expected Labor candidate Jane Austin or Mr Wilkie win the seat.
