Underlining the development of the “South-South cooperation” as a major foreign policy of the Islamic Republic, President Ahmadinejad said in a Wednesday message to his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez that the reinforcement of bilateral relations between Iran and Venezuela could set a model for other developing countries.
He added that the establishment of “multilateral strategic alliances” with other countries of the global south could also open a new chapter in the collective cooperation in the international arena.
President Ahmadinejad also underlined the necessity for mutual support of friend nations against obstacles created by the global hegemony in the way of the progress of free nations.
In his message, he also congratulated the Venezuelan government and nation on the occasion of Venezuela’s Independence Day.
Undoubtedly the victory of the Venezuelan nation in gaining independence is in line with the materialization of the ideals of the oppressed Latin American nations, and is a cause of joy for all freedom-seekers across the world, the Iranian president said.
The promotion of all-out cooperation with Latin American countries is among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy.
Last month, President Ahmadinejad visited Venezuela, where he held talks with Chavez on bilateral relations and international developments.
His visit to Venezuela was the last leg of a tour of three Latin American nations, which also took him to Bolivia and Brazil.
