After renewed shelling in Kunar, Afghanistan summons Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires


nsnbc : Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in the Afghan capital Kabul was summoned in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs amid what Kabul describes as persistent artillery shelling on eastern parts of Afghanistan by the Pakistani military.

Afghanistan Pakistan border flagsThe Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affiars (MoFA) in a statement said the artillery shelling in eastern parts of Afghanistan along the Durand Line continues despite the fact that the Afghan government has repeatedly shared its concerns in this regard.

In its statement, the Ministry further added that the shelling has resulted in the deaths of a number a civilians while others have sustained injuries. The Ministry did not name specific casualty figures, names, or other identifiers that would allow journalists to investigate the individual incidents.

However, the Ministry also stated that the shelling has also inflicted financial losses to the local residents. The Ministry also claimed that “such incursions” may have “the goal to help enhance the area for the activities of terrorist groups”. Afghanistan and Pakistan have long been accusing each other of supporting or harboring terrorists while there is little cooperation between Kabul and Islamabad with regard to joint anti-terrorism operations.

However, the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it, and the Afghan people, strongly condemn the acts committed by Pakistan as serious and as breach of the international norms. The Ministry also stated that the Charge d’Affaires of Pakistan was summoned in the Ministry in this regard on Monday to convey the serious concerns of the Afghan government.

The Ministry also added that the Charge d’Affaire of Pakistan was asked to convey the Afghan government’s concerns to the relevant authorities and immediate steps must be taken to halt the incursions.
