Afghans urged to rally against US pact

The United National Front in a statement called on the Afghan people to take to the streets on Friday to protest the agreement that allows US troops to stay in the war-torn country longer.

The call came after the group condemned the agreement as “illegal and in violation of the Afghan constitution.”

“History won’t forgive supporters of this imperialistic pact. They will be condemned by Afghanistan’s present and future generations,” a statement from the group said.

Earlier this month, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and his US counterpart Barack Obama signed an agreement authorizing American troops to stay in the country until 2024.

The deal has angered Afghan lawmakers who argue the agreement has not been approved by parliament.

Afghan political groups and parties have already voiced their vehement opposition to the agreement, saying it will not bring peace to Afghanistan.
