Abbott makes election pitch

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has taken advantage of the infighting in the Labor Party to outline how he believes the coalition would create a stronger economy and society.

He repeated calls for an immediate election and also for the independent MPs to move a no-onfidence motion in the Labor government.

“You need to bring down the curtain on the farce, the embarrassment which government is Canberra is rapidly becoming,” he told the independents while speaking to reporters in Sydney.

“I think the choice that most Australians want to embrace is an election.”

Mr Abbott said the vitriol coming from both the Rudd and Gillard camps just confirmed every criticism the coalition had made of the two leaders.

“I think it is embarrassing, and for a Labor supporter humiliating, to listen to people, who you thought you could admire and look up to, tearing each other to pieces like this,” he said.

“How could the prime minister of our country place into the foreign ministry someone who is as chaotic and dysfunctional as she now claims?”

The opposition leader gave a broad outline of the coalition’s plans for the future.

They included lowering government spending and increasing productivity, giving more “people power” over schools and hospitals, and creating a cleaner environment through direct action.
