A MAN is in custody over the brutal killing of a woman at a suburb north of Brisband this morning.
Regional Crime Co-ordinator detective Supt Mark Ainsworth said police were called to a home at Danube Drive, Strathpine just after 9.30am, where they found the woman, aged in her 50s, on a nearby bike path with significant head injuries.
The revelation comes as a stolen car, used yesterday to mow down two police officers at Lawnton, was found near the same address.
Supt Ainsworth was unable to confirm whether there was a connection between the two incidents.
The woman died at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital at 11am.
Supt Ainsworth said a 27-year-old man was assisting police with their enquiries but was in an agitated state.
“We don’t believe it is a random attack on a walkway’ at this stage there is nothing to indicate that,” he said.
“Whilst the female is yet to be identified, we are confident that the man we have in custody and the woman were known to one another.”
He said police divers would explore creeks in the area where the woman was found to look for a second item allegedly used in the attack.
He confirmed police had seized a metal bar probably used in the incident from the scene.
A police forward command post has been set up at the corner of Melba Drive and Schubert Street at Strathpine.
Supt Ainsworth said it was too early to say whether the two incidents are linked.
