Last year we showed the Urbio vertical garden system on TreeHugger when it was just a gleam in the Kickstarter eye. Now it is a reality, a very clever modular magnetic system, “allowing you to grid out your urban garden customised to your personal living space.”

The pots are held on by very strong neodymium magnets that make it easy to pull off for watering or rearranging. But they are just pots; there is no system, for watering, you have to know your plants, how much, how often. I think that they are a better organizer than a planter. More at Urbio

Danielle Trofe’s Live Screen , seen earlier on TreeHugger here, includes a full hydroponic growing system. A pump concealed in the base moves water to the top of each tower, and gravity delvers water to each of the subsequent planter pods.

Paolo Callegari of Virginia Tech built a vertical garden that is designed to block the sun in summer and after the leaves fall off, allow sun in during the winter, like vines do. It was perhaps the simplest technology in the booth built by the creators of the mini-Lumenhaus on display at ICFF.
