‘99-percenters outrage set to increase’

The protesters were detained on Friday when the police used pepper spray in an attempt to disperse their gathering at Compton Hill Reservoir Park.

Activists said that at least two people were injured.

Press TV has interview Allen Roland, an online columnist, to share his opinion on this issue.

What follows is an approximate transcript of the interview.

Press TV: US authorities’ tactics with dealing the Occupy protesters seems to be the same, it hasn’t changed.

You’d think that they would have learned by now considering that the protesters aren’t going anywhere!

Roland: Let me comment on that! It’s business as usual!

We have a police state here in the United States. The police has literary been militarized! A tremendous amount of … has gone into police forces all over the country.

Look at the gear they are wearing, they are literary a military force, and they are treating the people, protesters, like terrorists.

Any person will tell you that, 16 people were arrested today in St. Louis. But this is a dry run, because it’s a dry run for what’s going to happen in Chicago, when the United Nations meets in Chicago.

Remember now, the president has the right to actually put these people in detention, if he signs the most recent law about unlawful protest and occupying.

It basically most certainly will happen in Chicago.

So this is not going to get … to now, this is going to increase the brutality and the outrage. It’s all going to increase, going right into May, and the UN meeting in Chicago.

Press TV: Speaking of which you have outlined, it’s seems things are going to get worse before they get better.

Based on that, and the way we’ve seen this movement evolve throughout the winter, what direction do you see it headed?

Roland: Well what I mean by getting worse, the brutality will get worse. The people will get angrier, and the brutality will get worse too.

What I’m trying to say is it’s all coming to a head in Chicago.

And meanwhile in the midst of all this, we are not really in a midst of recovery. The only people who are recovering in the United States are the one percent, because of a jury rate financial system.

The vast majority of the 99 percent of the American people are in a just severe depression.

So people are going to get angrier, they are going to take to the streets and the next step you will see, people will be going to detention camps. And remember, there is many, many detention camps set up already all over the United States.

Press TV: And also this is an election year, the demands of the 99-percenters have not been echoed in the campaign promises and slogans of any of the candidates.

Does that mean that the protest movement so far has been ineffective as many critics point out?

Roland: No, no! To answer your question, no!

It’s brought a lot of this to the surface, but that doesn’t mean that it’s answered or responded to, but at least its common knowledge now what people are angry about.

So you got two forces coming together here, the will of the people versus the will of the government. And the will of people will eventually win it.

But it’s going to be a bloody fight before that happens, and it will increase as we get closer and closer to the election at the end of the year.

So, it is two forces approaching each other, once again the will of the people versus the will of the government.
