TCP : The total of 80, 324 Egyptians have fled Libya since a video showing the beheading of 21 Egyptians by an Islamic State group in Libya was released in mid-February.
The arrivals entered through the Sallum Egypt-Libya border crossing, which has received 498 Egyptians and Libyans coming in and 874 others leaving to Libya during the past 24 hours; despite the security risks, many Egyptians still make seek employment in Libya.
Sallum officials previously said that the number of migrants who manage to illegally leave Egypt to Libya through the border is more than those who are arrested on a daily basis.
Hundreds of Egyptians and foreigners have also been arrested by Egyptian coast guards while trying cross the Mediterranean to Europe. Egypt has received waves of deported Egyptians, mostly from Italy, who travelled illegally.
The flow of migrants across Europe has been the story of the hour, after a humanitarian crisis heightened as many refugees drown on their way when the overcrowded smugglers’ boat sank.
