FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda The office of Egypt’s prosecutor general issued a statement on Thursday, saying that 75 people — including nine police officers, three officials of el-Masry club and two minors — bore responsibility for the deaths in the violence following a game between Cairo’s club el-Ahly and el-Masry of Port Said.
The statement also said that the police officers and al-Masry officials knew in advance that the home fans planned to attack el-Ahly supporters, yet allowed el-Masry fans to exceed by 3,000 the maximum number authorized to attend the game and did not search any of them for weapons before they were allowed into the stadium.
It added that police failed to intervene when el-Masry fans, some of whom were criminals known to the police, began attacking their rivals.
“Those from the police among the defendants failed to take any measure … to maintain security, protect lives and property,” the statement read.
On Feb. 1, football fans invaded the field of Port Said Stadium where el-Masry defeated el-Ahly, the most popular team in the North African country, three to one.
The incident was one of the deadliest disasters in world’s soccer history.
The two football teams have a long history of bad blood and many clashes have erupted between the two sides’ fans in recent years.
