6 Cities That Are Going To Completely Disappear In The Near Future

When it comes to surviving on Earth, there’s only so much we can do as humans. Sure, we’re capable of scaling the tallest mountains on the planet and diving to the depths of the ocean, but at the end of the day, we’re pretty small (relative to the Earth).

Which means most natural catastrophes, like hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, volcanoes, etc., have a very large and a very real impact on our lives.

Due to various factors, both environmental and man-made, these six major cities might be wiped off the face of the planet soon:

Bangkok, Thailand

Similar to the struggles of Venice, Bangkok continues to sink as ocean levels continue to rise.

The city is draining underground caverns for drinking water, but as they do so, the city’s foundation grows weaker.

San Francisco, California

If you’ve ever been to San Francisco, you know that it’s easily one of the funnest and most exciting cities to exist in the United States.

Unfortunately, California is resting on a major fault line, meaning there’s about a 75 percent chance that a high magnitude earthquake will level the city entirely before the end of the century.

Venice, Italy

You’ve probably heard about Venice, simply because of how beautiful the city is. It’s notorious for its intravenous, road-like water ways that weave through the city, allowing people to get around using watercraft.

This city is literally sinking, however, with many of the city buildings being flooded regularly.

Mexico City, Mexico

Much of Mexico City was built on a massive dried up lake bed, a decision that will haunt the city until its end.

The lake bed provides a less-than-adequate foundation for the city, and because of this, it sinks about 4 inches every year, having sunk about 10 meters over the last 40 years.

Banjul, The Gambia

Lying on the coast of its African country, Banjul’s main concern are rising ocean levels.

Its coastline is slowly eroding away, with the waterline of the ocean being a short 2 kilometers away from the only highway that connects Banjul with other towns, and subsequently, the rest of the country.

Naples, Italy

Naples is one of the oldest cities in history, and people have continuously flocked there for centuries.

Easily one of the most stunningly beautiful cities on Earth, Naples rests right next to Mount Vesuvius, the same volcano that destroyed the city of Pompeii in 79 A.D. The volcano is still active, and should it erupt again, Naples will likely go with it.
