nsnbc : Ukraine’s State Borders Service (SBS) reported that more than 500,000 Ukrainian citizens have arrived in EU member countries since the day the Ukraine-EU visa-free travel agreement came into effect. More than 21,000 of them have used their “biometric passport” as the only travel document, stated the SBS.
The SBS stated that “over 100,000 were travelling with biometric passports, including 21,000 Ukrainians who used the visa-free travel benefits and crossed the border using their biometric passports only”.
A total of 6.745 of the 21,000, or about 32 percent, travelled visa-free to European Union member countries by plane. The others travelled by rail or crossed the border via motor checkpoints, mostly on the border with Poland – 8,725 Ukrainian citizens, and Hungary – 2,840 Ukrainian citizens.
The number of Ukrainian citizens traveling to the European Union visa-free increased a lot on weekends, said border guards. Twenty-six Ukrainian citizens have been denied admission since the visa-free travel took effect.
