5.1-magnitude quake jolts west Indonesia

The government-run Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said that the tremor hit at 11:00 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) on Saturday, with an epicenter 133 kilometers (82 miles) southwest of West Lampung regency of Lampung province. It struck at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).

Indonesia is vulnerable to earthquakes as it sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire.

The region is known for its seismic and volcanic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
