3 killed in Pakistan poll violence

The deadly bomb attacks targeted the offices of candidates in the main town of Miran Shah on Friday.

At least 15 people were injured in the fatal explosions. No person or a group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The bombings come a day after heavily armed gunmen abducted Ali Haider Gilani, the son of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, at an election rally in central Pakistan on Thursday.

Pro-Taliban militants have threatened to mar Saturday’s elections, which are already being referred to as Pakistan’s bloodiest.

More than 130 people have been killed in attacks on party workers and candidates since the beginning of April.

Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants had previously announced that they would target the election rallies of Awami National Party, Pakistan People’s Party, and Muttahida Quami Movement.

Pakistan will hold its National Assembly elections on May 11. The National Assembly has a total of 342 members, of which 272 are elected by the popular vote. The last National Assembly elections were held in February 2008.
