3 feared dead in Glasgow copter crash

The Eurocopter EC135 T2 came down on the roof of the Clutha Vaults pub in Stockwell Street, where a live music event was being held, on Friday evening.

About 120 people were in the pub at the time of the crash.

Police Scotland said three people – two police officers and a civilian pilot – were on board when the accident happened, adding that the force was “not in a position to confirm any details regarding injuries.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) also said “a number of casualties” with “multiple types of injury” had been taken to hospital, while crews worked to stabilize the “very unsafe building” and free those who were trapped inside.

“Given an incident of this scale we must all prepare ourselves for the likelihood of fatalities,” Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond said in a post on his official Twitter.

Former Shadow Defence Secretary Jim Murphy, who was at the scene after the crash, also described the site as a “horrible horrible scene”.

Murphy said he saw at least 10 people who were injured, including some who were bleeding from head wounds.

Eyewitnesses said they did not hear an explosion and that the aircraft was falling like a stone from the sky.

According to reports, at least 125 firefighters are still involved in the operation.
