3 arrested as Colo school cracks down on pot rally

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Three protesters have been arrested for trespassing on a grassy quadrangle at the University of Colorado where officials are trying to stamp out one of the nation’s largest annual campus celebrations of marijuana.

The university declared the popular Norlin Quadrangle closed on Friday and groundskeepers spread a smelly fish fertilizer to prevent a repeat of last year, when more than 10,000 people gathered there for a marijuana rally.

One of the three protesters, Gabriel Kuettel, told reporters the university is spreading a “message of intolerance.” Another, Johnathan Ducombe (DOO-kahm) says the crackdown is more disruptive than the any of the previous years’ rallies.

The third protester’s name wasn’t immediately known.

The university has closed the entire campus to all unauthorized visitors.
