Iran sends monkey into space |

Iran announced that it has successfully sent a monkey into space.
The monkey traveled in a rocket, reaching an altitude of about 75 miles before returning to earth alive, according to press reports in Iran.
Iranian state television showed pictures of the monkey, which was attached to a harness, being taken to the rocket.
Western nations have expressed concern that Iran’s space program is being used to develop long-range missiles.
These missiles could potentially be used to carry nuclear warheads.
Iran denies it is trying to develop nuclear weapons and insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
“The survival of the monkey, without incurring any injuries, showed that the acceleration and deceleration of the rocket were not too serious. It also showed that Iran has made a significant advance in its space program,” an expert said.
