A leading Israeli rabbi with a large family was killed in a car crash in Israel, according to hospital officials in Israel.
Rabbi Yehuda Haimov of the Israeli city of Sderot, has died from injuries sustained during a car crash on Thursday night. Rabbi Heimov was seriously injured in the accident, which occurred at an intersection a short distance from Sderot, Israel.
He was the leader of the Bukharan Jewish community and served as rabbi of the community in Sderot.
Rabbi Haimov, 49, is survived by his wife,11 children and several grandchildren. He was buried
Friday morning in the cemetery of Sderot.
An initial investigation of the accident found that the rabbi’s car swerved for reasons that remain unclear. The car overturned and crashed into a pole. No one else was injured from the incident.
A Bukharan Jewish community member said that the community suffered a great loss, as the rabbi was like a father to the Israeli Bukharian Jewish community, the member told news reporters.
