Several people were found dead at a California senior living facility, according to police reports.
An apparent murder-suicide has left two women and a man dead in a shootout on Tuesday in the lobby of a senior citizen apartment complex in Torrance, California, law enforcement officials said.
Officers were called to the shooting shortly after noon in the Golden West Tower, where authorities found three bodies, Sgt. Robert Watt of the Torrance Police Department told the news media.
The facility employees told a newspaper that the alleged perpetrator was a male resident of the facility and that one of the victims was a manager of the complex and the other was a caregiver.
An employee said the alleged assailant was prone to violent outbursts and had expressed his anger towards the two who were shot.
The authorities confirmed that one of the victims was an employee at the apartment complex and said that none of the above reports of threats had been previously reported to the police in Torrance.
Watt said that a gun had been used, but could not confirm the age or identity of any of the dead, and investigators are still searching for possible reasons for the killings.
As investigators probed the scene, authorities cleared the building, a high-rise facility in the 3500 block of Maricopa Street, a neighborhood of modest apartment buildings across Torrance Boulevard.
The 100 people who were evacuated from the building were brought back, floor by floor, after three hours, Watt said. The crime scene, he said, was not visible to residents.
