Mother with her newborn baby |
A school ordered a teacher to train her breasts not to produce milk while in school, according to a new lawsuit filed in court.
A former California school teacher accused school officials in a lawsuit of not accommodating her breastfeeding schedule.
The local newspaper reported that Sarah Ann Lewis Boyle has sued Carmel School, where she worked, and the Carmel Unified School District, alleging discrimination and wrongful termination.
Boyle claims that before returning to work, she told a school administrator she would need about 15 minutes every day between 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to pump her breasts.
Boyle claims that the school official told her to train her breasts not to produce breast milk, and the district made no accommodation to allow her to feed her newborn baby. According to Boyle, she later received a negative evaluation and urged to resign.
District spokesperson Paul Behan said the district does not comment on litigation.
