Announcement of price gouging charges |
13 gas station in New York, which engaged in price gouging were charged with price gouging, according to a press released by the New York Attorney General.
New York is taking the allegations of price gouging in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy very seriously.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced enforcement proceedings against 13 service stations in New York soon to begin.
The stations involved in the investigation include those in Long Island, Westchester County, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
“Today’s action is the first in a series of steps from my office that will continue to actively investigate hundreds of complaints we have received from consumers from companies that preyed on victims of Hurricane Sandy. We will do everything to stop unscrupulous people taking advantage of New Yorkers trying to rebuild their lives,” Schneiderman said.
Among the stations on the list of the 13 is the Mobil on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
The indictment was not a surprise for a woman, who said she shops at the Mobil station.
“I think this station is a price gouger, always. Unfortunately, however, this is the route I take. This is where I can buy my gas, but I’m not happy about it,” she said.
The Attorney General’s Office received complaints that the station was charging up to $5.03 per gallon.
